We’re going to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on the blog by writing and posting pictures about Thanksgiving! Totally logical, right? It just demonstrates how woefully behind I am!
I had surgery at the end of October, and since we had Big Texas Plans for Christmas, we opted to stay home for Thanksgiving. It ended up being a very relaxed, fun day.
We started the day off with a walk around Greenlake, a park very near to our house that has a three mile walk around a lake. Tons of other people were doing the same, and it was all very merry, with out of town family visitors, people dressed like turkeys, and even a large family holding a hilarious impromptu race. It was also very, very foggy.

Once we came back, Andy and I hauled the turkey out from its overnight brine and set to work. I’ve never done a Thanksgiving turkey before, so it was nice to practice on just immediate family in case I screwed up! It actually turned out really well, juicy on the inside and crisp on the outside. Yay for brining!
This turkey brought to you by Alton Brown’s awesome brined turkey recipe:

And it all ended with us on the couch calling loved ones. Even Goobers!
