A death in the (technology) family

You may have, amidst your busy life, stopped and thought “Where are my constant updates on cute Kelly and hound Goobers? WHERE ARE THE SAMUELS?!”

Well, we’ve been here all along. Sure, we’ve been busy with redoing our deck, Kelly starting preschool and swimming lessons, Goobers being…. dachshundy. But the main reason there have been no blog updates lately is that we had a death in the family. The technology family. Our main computer up and gave us the SCREEN OF DEATH and despite Andy’s computer wizardry (just call him the Harry Potter of laptops!) and the nice guys at the Apple Genius Bar, there was no hope. The laptop was old and we knew it was inevitable, but it still threw us for a loop and I have yet to fully set up our new one to the way I like it. I miss my organized bookmarks and my file system that works for me. Blerg. So we’re still piecing it back together. In other news, OHMYGAWD back up your computers, ya’ll! Thankfully, Andy and I are nerds, safety conscious, and generally do what experts recommend (yep, we’re THOSE people), so we had our computer backed up to an external hard drive, so most of our stuff is there (but we hadn’t backed up since spring, so our summer stuff is kaput). We are such safety nerds that we actually store our external drive in a safety deposit box in case our house burns down or floods or is filled with lava (hey, we do live near some volcanoes, it could happen…. really… stop laughing!).

So there will be pictures and stories soon, I promise. In the meantime, use the time you would be reading (and commenting! COMMENTING!) this little bloggy blog to back up your computer!

And maybe also take a second and think fondly of our old computer. It has literally been around the world with us, and was the computer I did most of my blogging on. Sniffle. We’ll miss you, Lappy.
