Thanksgiving 2010: turkeys and penguins

I am just flying through the holiday posts now, aren’t I? We spent Thanksgiving in Indiana with Andy’s grandma, mom, and Bob. The weirdest thing EVER happened when it snowed in Seattle (super unusual for November), so we flew out of Seattle with snow, to the Midwest where there was no snow. Traditionally, it is snowing when we go the Midwest for the holidays, and we look forward to coming back to rainy Seattle. Weird. We spent our Seattle snow day running errands before we went to the airport. We took Goobers with us, and not surprisingly, his cold paws got to him and he refused to walk any further. Sigh.

We also ran out of camera battery on the trip, so all the pictures are of what we did and not who we were with! Sad! Thank goodness Andy’s mom took pictures.

We made a quick stop at Conner Prairie, a historical reenactment museum place near Grandma’s house. Andy and I tried out some headgear.

We went to the Indiana zoo, where it was bright and sunny and cold. We tried to stick with the warm indoor exhibits! Here is Andy, touching a shark!

Seahorses are SO bizarre. Why don’t more zoos have them?

Clown fish!

Nemo?

I know most posts on Thanksgiving are about a certain bird, the turkey. But our Thanksgiving post is about a different one. My favorite one, in fact. The penguin! The exhibit was great, with two walls of penguins and a tunnel that went under the walkway so penguins swam underneath me!

We had a nice time, and Andy and I were able to consume some of our favorite Midwestern treats. Then we returned home, very tired, to one snuggly dachshund.

About samuelfamily

We are 30-somethings who are completely enamored with our miniature dachshund Goobers, team member Kelly Sue, who joined us in December 2011, and our newest team member, Norah Jo, who joined us in October 2014. We moved from Seattle to Bellingham in 2016, and spend our time traveling locally and globally, and tackling parenting together. We decided we were worthy of a blog after getting married in 2006 and taking a 5 week trip to Europe in 2007. While our day-to-day life isn't always that dramatic or adventurous, we manage to amuse ourselves. Enjoy. Or not. Whatever.
